SURVEY! Can anyone help me?
I'm taking a class named "Theory and Practice in Curriculum(교육과정의 이론과 실제)" in department of education in this semester. The professor gave us a homework. It includes stating some detail objectives for a certain goal in a subject(in my case, English subject) and then surveying the ideas of graduate students, professors, and peer students about the priorities of the detail objectives. So, if you have some time for participating in this SURVEY, can anyone help me?
All you can do for helping me is making the priorities of each of the 5 objectives above and arrange them like this : for example, '1-4-5-3-2' and a short description of the reason for your thought. Of course, I think the 5 are all important in organizing a curriculum for helping students improve their English speaking skills but I want to hear your opinions.
I uploaded this post in the forum for graduate students. Though the big reason for me to upload this post is for my homework, but I think this can give us all a pretty good chance to share our opinions with the forum members...
Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
Goal: Helping the 1st graders of middle school improve their English speaking skills Specific objectives : 1. Helping students learn the expressions which can be applied in specific situations (automaticity) 2. Putting an importance on improving students' intonation and pronunciation(enunciation) 3. Helping students learn how to organize gramatically correct expressions(grammar) 4. Making students be exposed to specific speaking situations which are similar to those of real-world. (exposure) 5. Giving students lots of chances to get feed-backs from their teacher and peer students for their speaking(feed-back) |

Re: SURVEY! Can anyone help me?
1. 4-1-5-2-3
2. Reasons: I think the amount of exposure is the most important to the 1st grade students. To the beginners, the enough input of the target language is the main goal like the L1 acquisition. And the automaticity which is about performing the target language is the next goal of the L2 class for beginners. Grammar is the least important thing to beginners, I think. If the teachers give enough input, the students can infer the grammatical rules from the plenty of examples.
Good luck to your homework :-)

4-1-3-2-5
reason: I also thought exposoue is more important than automaticity, but we can not expect a good result by just exposing without some kind of expression or frame for English. Therefore, I think those have to be done together. After helping students get automaticity, we can help them organize correctly and pronounce well. After that, a teacher can judge or feed back to students.

Re: SURVEY! Can anyone help me?
4-1-2-5-3
Reason: By exposing students in the English context, students can have opportunity to listen to English. This should be the first thing to be done for learning language. Based on what they have listened, students can learn specific expressions. They relate what they have listened to what they want to say. Learning enunciation after being familiar with English speaking and being able to speak in English a little will help students apply enunciation to their speaking easily.
Feedback from peers and teachers can help students develop their speaking and correct their mistakes. Grammar teching should be the last because students need grammar after they have interest and courage to speak English. Then, they can use grammar for extending sentenses and more logical speaking.
Is that enough?
See you tomorrow!!!

Reason: I think grammar is learned auromarically by speaking English. But for that, students need to expose to environment in which they can speak English whatever anything.
If they can speak English well[I mean confidently and fluently], then, they have to get some feedback from teachers for developing their English structures they use.
I hope what I wrote is helpful for you.
