Dialogue

Min-su: Mike, summer vacation is coming soon. Do you have any special plans?

Mike: So far I don't have any plans.

Min-su: Really?

Mike: Yeah, maybe I will just stay home and study Korean.

Min-su: That sounds good, but you have to get out, too.

Mike: Do you have any ideas?

Min-su: In fact, I do. Why don't you come camping with my soccer team?

Mike: Camping? That sounds interesting.

Min-su: My team will go to the mountain for one week.

Mike: I'd like to, but I have to stay home. My grandfather will be here during summer vacation.

General objective

Make the students familiar with English by making their own dialogues.

Specific objective

Learn how to make a suggestion.

Learn how to make a polite but decided rejection.

Lesson Sequence:

[noticing]

1. Make the students close their books and choose two students to read the dialogue.

(Class, please close your books. I'd like you to read the dialogue. Any volunteer?)

(Tom and Bob raise their hands.) (OK. Please read the dialogue.)

2. Reading the dialogue, choose another students to explain what the dialogue is about.

(Thank you for your help, Tom and Bob. And now, Daniel, what is the dialogue about?)

3. Ask the students whether the answer is right or wrong.

4. The teacher reads the dialogue and students repeat after the teacher.

[drill]

I will just stay home and study Korean. English, math, science

That sounds good. great, terrible, excellent

My team will go to the mountain for one week. beach two days

→ The teacher reads the sentence and students read the sentence with the substituted words.

[enunciation]

Sounds

Really, Yeah, team

sounds, out, mountain

Words

plan, have, just

spe-cial, sta-y, so-und

Ko-re-an, mo-un-tain

Sentences

That sounds good.

Do you have any ideas?

→The teacher reads these sentences with wrong enunciation, students have to answer whether the enunciation is right or wrong.

→Let the students practice enunciation by pairs.

Discourse

Class, please close your books, and this is the dialogue what we have learned. Please fill in the blank with your partners. And correct the wrong one.

Hi! Samuel~ I appreciated your outline well :0 and I want to give some advices for you.
First, I think it is enough to show two sounds [u] and [ou], because 'ea' is less related with those sounds.
Also, I recommend you to add some explanation how to make student do discourse practice. Smile
I really hope that those little tiny advices will help you~

look great but you need to add explanations more like other people do. Especially, drill and enunciation parts.
I am also still not good at making my outline but I can see what kind of things I should make it change based on other people do. They are really organized-well.

Let's do our best together until it is perfect!

Best wishes,

Give me your ideas and tips, please~^^ Empty How about focusing arrangement?

Post  Choieunsok Mon Apr 07 2008, 21:04

Your format is good. But It's hard to read your outline.
So, I suggest you to arrange your outline-using tables. It will be helpful to improving your outline. But don't think it seriously. It's just my opinion. Shocked

Hi Samuel,

You have the beginnings of a very good lesson outline here, but it does need work in several areas.

1. Your general objective and specific objectives are far too vague. Looking at your dialogue, I would have thought the general objective would have been something like "talking about vacation plans" or something like that.

2. Your explanations for noticing, drill, enunciation and discourse awareness are very vague and brief. This doesn't give us any real awareness in terms of how you intend to make them work in any sort of interesting and effective way in your classroom.

I strongly suggest you look at the other sample lesson outlines here in the forum - both mine and those of your classmates. I think then you make be able to see what is missing from your approach.

Best of luck with it,

~ Jason
