Chart 1 shows the estimated number of people online worldwide from 1995 to 2002. As the number people of online is 580 millions in 2002, the number of 1995 increased almost 22 times compared to that of 2002. For one year, from 1999 to 2000, the number of people on line rose dramatically. On the contrary, during the period which is from 1995 to 1999 and from 2000 to 2002, the number increased gradually.




Chart 2 shows Internet users in 2003. America and Canada occupy the largest rate, which takes 53 percent. Next, Europe follows after America and Canada accounting for 24 percent. Asia and Pacific take up 15 percent and South America marks 6 percent. On the other hand, Middle East and Africa account for so little rate, which is only 1 percent each.




Overall, as the number of people online worldwide increased for 7 years, Internet users can be seen in all over the world. However, the gap among countries is quite wide. While Africa and Middle East takes up only 1 percent, over 50 percent is occupied by America and Canada.
