What do you think needs to be done to improve English Education in your country? Think of one suggestion and explain why you think it is needed.

It is needless to say that Korea is one of the nations which spend considerable time and money related to English Education. However, English is still a stressful subject to students. To improve English Education in Korea, better assessment methods are needed. Exactly, student-based assessment is required. There are two reasons below.

Firstly, teacher-oriented assessment doesn't helpful to students. Simply students scare the teacher's grading power. For that reason, students are focused on getting good grades from their teacher, and more concentrated on tests. Of course the feedback which comes from teacher when he is grading, is helpful to students, but if the feedback would come from their friends, it would be much more helpful. Because they are approximately in the same age, the way of thinking and the way of making mistakes are similar, so it would be easier for student to correct their minor mistakes and the answer and approach to the question would be more familiar.

Secondly, it would be a solution for students not to compete but to help each other, because students could doubt about teacher's assessment. As you know, Korean students are very sensitive to grade and there are too many students in one class ; 30 to 35 students in a class. As a result, teacher cannot give the same attention to each of the students. It makes students doubt that teacher likes and grades one special students better. On that account, they fight for grades each other and don't help. This phenomenon is not desirable. The more competitions happen, the more jealousy and competitions are on the surface. On the other hand student-oriented assessment doesn't need to draw up all the students in a line. Therefore they will help one another and can focus on improving their language ability not for the ability to get a good grade.

Teacher-oriented assessment is traditional assessment method till now. However as the world and envirionment are changed, the assessment system should be refreshed too. Thesedays, in any parts, practicality is the first thing to achieve. It proves that English Education system calls for necessity to assess students by themselves.
