What do you think are the potential benefits and limitations of online learning applications for English education in Korea? Support your opinion with details and examples.
There are various methods and tools that we can use in studying English. An original and widespread tool is a radio. Nowadays, however, it is getting more popular to use the Internet as a tool of English studying since we are living in a tech era. On the other hand, some are worried about disadvantages of online learning applications for English education. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the potential benefits and limitations of online English learning.
In Korea, over 90% of homes have the Internet facility. Also, we can use the Internet at schools and public institutions. It means only if we want to use the Internet, we can do without difficulties. Considering this aspect, studying online is easy to access. Plus, we don’t need to carry walkmans and tapes; rather we can just turn on the computers that we meet in any places where we want to study. On the contrary, there is downside. It is sometimes inconvenient. We can see the computer screen with just computers, but it is impossible to listen to the sound without personal earphones. It doesn’t matter at home. Then, how about in other places? We have to carry earphones for listening and computer mikes for speaking. In addition, it is more impossible to study while walking or being in the bus.
Especially, for young English learners under 19 years old, computers are their best friends and very useful tools in many ways. Therefore, using their favorite tools for studying English increases their motivations and interests. Since learners are used to handling computers, they don’t have to waste time in preparing tapes or radios. Instead, they can study English in a proficient way. On the other hand, computers are not everyone’s favorite machines. Some people’s eyes are too sensitive to see the computer screen for a long time. Others may be poor at handling computers. For these kinds of people, it can be challenging to study online with computers.
Practicing with native speakers is very important part in studying English. Regarding this aspect, online English studying is very effective. With computer cameras, the Internet, and proper programs, learners can talk with native speakers and friends from other countries online. They don’t have to spend time going to the language institutions and go abroad to meet foreign friends. However, there is disadvantage here. Talking involves many things such as noticing feeling, body languages, and interaction. Just online, we can’t say that is a real situation and talk as we can’t meet partners we talk with.
All in all, there are both benefits and limitations of online learning applications for English education. Studying online is easy to access, increasing young learners’ motivations and interests, and being able to having talk with native speakers without going to language schools and abroad. However, it is sometimes inconvenient to listen to the sound and practice speaking outside without earphones and mikes. Also, some people are not good at computers, and it is not effective to interact well online. Even though there are some limitations, we can not deny studying English with computers has many advantages and benefits now and later. Through complementing limitations and developing many useful programs, if we can apply this method- online English education, it will be able to help Korean English education.

I agree with your opinion.
Nowadays, young students tend to be early adopters who are eager to take the risk of using new machine. Online learning will be very helpful for them in that sense.
As for me, I'm a bit worried about my inability not to catch up with the high tech.
I easily feel tired when I stare at the computer screen for more than 30 minutes.
As you pointed out, excessive use of computer and earphone can do us harm as it may cause eye and ear problems.

I agree with you. Today internet is very familiar to children.
Our teachers used to use pictures to help our understanding about what they were teaching while thesedays teachers use video-clips.
Resorting to a device familiar to learners is one of the easy ways to motivate learners to start studying.
