The new government has insisted that Korean secondary school English teachers should be able to conduct their classes entirely in English by 2012. Therefore, parents having children in Korea welcome that. At the same time, they also have worried about the fact that how they are going to manage that suggestion into school. It is a true that most of teachers do not speak English fully and are scared at foreigners. How would the local teachers be able to conduct their class in English without Korean? I assume that they would not do that because of the xenophbia and the job stability.

First of all, the government are going to try to let them train and bring to English countries to achieve the goal, based on our experiences to learn English, those methods would not work out because We have xenophobia. The new president and lawmakers always say that we want to alter our English education system in drastic ways to be able to speak when they inaugurate. However, that strategy always disappears as time goes by. We unconsciously think that English are different from us in every aspects that we have. Therefore, we do not fully speak English in front of foreigners and we try to avoid from them spontaneously due to that even though we have learned English for at least 10 years. If the government could destroy this unconscious scarness, that suggestion would fit in classroom.

Secondly, young local teachers could prefer to do that but Old teachers definitely do not want to do that. Basically, the reason why many people in Korea would like to become teachers is the job stability. After being teachers, they do not have to develop themselves compared to other jobs. However, teaching English in English means that they have to strive to speak English as fast as possible for old ones. As we see the constitution of old local teachers in Korea, it would take/need more time to accomplish our aims if the government want to do that.

In conclusion, perhaps, the government are willing to tranforming local teachers using any methods that they can for the target. However, their efforts would vanish into thin air because of the strong strike like the stunned panic and firmness of old local teachers. I think that firstly, the better idea is to recruit native teachers more than now to improve local teacher’s English and embrace English certain environment and then let local teachers conduct the class in English.

Last thing is that conducting their classes entirely in English spurs the cost of private education. The parents would not believe that local teachers can completely teach English in English in class, also their children perfectly understand what teachers talk in English. Therefore, they would bring their children to cram school for mastering their English if the government starts. It means that they are not going to trust the policy of new government before observing significant and detailed plans of English education system. Finally, it would affect local teachers in desperate ways that their willingness and motivations to teach English in English would be gone.

In conclusion, perhaps, the government is willing to transforming local teachers using any methods that they can for the target. However, their efforts would vanish into thin air because of the strong strike like the stunned panic, firmness of old local teachers and disbelief of public education system.
